EU Support for Peace Processes

The Ad-hoc Group on EU Support for Peace Processes (EUSPP) was launched in November 2011.

The main objective of the Ad-hoc Group is to make the EU's conflict prevention and peacebuilding work more effective and hold the EU institutions to account, but also to ensure that conflict prevention and peacebuilding have a prominent place in the structures and institutions of the EU.

Definition

For this ad hoc group, a peace process shall include the activities around a peace agreement (PA):

  • Pre-Agreement stage (including e.g. bringing the conflict parties to the table for negotiations, etc.);
  • Peace agreement drafting/ negotiations/ analysis/ signature/ endorsement; and
  • Implementation of the peace agreement.

Focal themes

1. Accountability and effectiveness of EU support for peace processes

2. EU support to the participation of civil society organisations in peace processes

3. Relation between EU and non-governmental, Europe-based organisations

4. EU capacity to support peace processes
